Balvonie Pinot Noir 2025
Crafted in anticipation of Ben and Helen's 50th birthday celebrations, Balvonie Marlborough Pinot Noir is a small production wine that delivers big on expression.
One block, seven clones, 330 high density planted vines. Hand harvest, whole bunch ferment, seasoned French oak. Thoughtfully produced by the McLauchlan family, Balvonie Marlborough Pinot Noir is a portrait of its place.
Burnished crimson with a copper rim. Lifted aromatics of cranberry, dark cherry and raspberry, with savoury notes of eucalyptus, white pepper and cedar. The palate deepens into blackberry and tart cherry pie, layered with bittersweet chocolate, liquorice and tobacco. Grippy tannins, good acidity, generous finish.
An ideal companion to New Zealand lamb, especially a well-seasoned bbq backstrap. A few other Balvonie family favourites are miso glazed eggplant, beef short ribs and confit duck. Blue cheese with a berry compote is also exceptional!
